98point6 has three bodies of work underway to make progress on this front:
Health equity efforts: We have formed an internal working group with cross-functional representation to define and prioritize product improvements that accelerate our efforts around serving the underserved, as well as addressing racial bias and social determinants of health in our clinical practice. We’ve invested in a population health medical director and an associate medical director of health equity whose roles are to profoundly understand, advocate for and make progress in these areas.
Inspired by the feedback of our physicians and the collective conversation around intentions versus impact, we are now collecting race and gender identity in our onboarding process to enable us to provide more equitable and effective care. You can learn more about this decision
here.
We are also actively engaged in serving vulnerable populations, which is core to our mission of offering the most accessible, affordable primary care in the United States today. This includes a partnership with the County of Los Angeles, where we are working to provide complimentary virtual care to individuals without homes during the pandemic. Conversations with additional counties and cities around similar efforts are ongoing.
Looking inward: We are evolving our diversity, equality and inclusion (DEI) efforts, including creating space for open discussions and developing a program to educate ourselves on systemic racism and bias. Specifically for our physicians, we are exploring implicit bias training that elevates our awareness and ability to provide equitable, high-quality primary care to all of our patients. To create change, we have to re-examine our own views and actions in light of a pain that is deeply felt but too often ignored.
Monetary investments: We’ve made donations to organizations, selected by our employees, who are working to make positive advancements that support social justice.
We will update this page with progress as achievements are made and new goals set. Change is a process and our
commitment to a healthier future will not cease.
